Our third meeting

Lily

Chinese bind the

Feet of girls

To show breeding and quality

Bones pop and

Break, bending,

Molding

The perfect lily

A good marriage

Can be made with

Perfect lilies

Feet that make fortunes

Marriage makes a

Lily out of a

Heart

Binding

Tightening

Bending

Popping

Each step torture

Breaking

Each step forming

My heart

A perfect lily

Waiting For the Wind

Waiting for the

Light to change.

Power lines

 Double-thick,

Pigeons on a wire.

“McDonald’s birds,”

My daughter said.

Waiting for the wind.

Wings folded, not quite.

Perhaps a semi-trailer

Will rumble by

With speed enough for an updraft.

Currents rise and

Feathers stretch.

Each pigeon follows

The one before

In a symphony

Of gracefully outstretched

Wings

Perfect formation

Soaring. Turning. Soaring.

Tucking wings down to grasp the wire

And waiting above the grease pits

Hopeful for…

Waiting for the light to change.

Waiting for the wind.
